Transparent video maker

Animations with no background, exported as a WebM with an alpha channel so they sit on top of whatever is underneath: a name tag over an interview, a subscribe button over a vlog, captions over a Reel, a webcam frame in OBS. Transparent export is free here, like everything else.

How it works

  1. 1

Open a transparent template, or set the scene's background colour to Transparent: the canvas shows a checkerboard where it's see-through.

  2. 2

Add your text, shapes and images, and animate them.

  3. 3

Export as WebM. The transparency is kept in the video file.

Why WebM and not MP4

MP4 can't store transparency, so a transparent scene exported as MP4 gets a solid background. A WebM encoded with VP9 carries an alpha channel. For a single frame, PNG and WebP keep the transparency too.

Using the file

Put the WebM on a track above your footage, or add it to OBS as a media source. Support for transparent WebM varies between video editors, so try a short export in yours first.

Questions

Is transparent export a paid feature?
No. Plenty of animation tools keep it for their higher plans; here it's free, with no watermark and no account.
Can I export a transparent GIF?
No, GIFs are exported with a solid background. Use WebM for moving images with transparency, and PNG or WebP for stills.
Why did my WebM come out with a background?
Encoding transparent video depends on your browser. When it can't, the export falls back to a solid background: try again in another browser, such as a recent Chrome.
